New cases of the coronavirus became more numerous in Kentucky Saturday, but the percentage of Kentuckians testing positive for the virus went down for the first time in eight days. to 3.42%.
The state reported 599 new cases, raising the seven-day rolling average by 13, to 623. Its seven-day average of daily new cases rose for the ninth straight day, to 12.54 per 100,000 residents.
Counties with rates more than double the statewide rate were Bracken, 79.1; Lewis, 56; Bath, 42.3; Wolfe, 41.9; Morgan, 38.6; Harlan, 34.6; Mason, 33.5; Logan, 30.6; Powell, 28.9; Menifee, 26.4; and Bell, 26.3.
Counties with more than five new cases were Jefferson, 103; Fayette, 38; McCracken, 31; Warren, 28; Daviess, 21; Kenton, 21; Logan, 18; Montgomery, 18; Christian, 15; Lewis, 11; Boone, 10; Harlan, 10; Henderson, 9; Franklin, 8; Hancock, 8; Barren, Graves, Laurel, Powell, Scott, Simpson, Trigg and Whitley, 7; and Allen, Morgan, Oldham and Shelby, 6.
The state added 13 fatalities to its list of Covid-19 deaths, three from regular health-department reporting and 10 from the ongoing audit of death certificates. As usual for a weekend, the state did not provide an itemized list of the victims by age, sex, county and date of death. The death toll is 6,330.
Kentucky hospitals reported 413 Covid-19 patients, five fewer than Friday; 105 of them were in intensive care, 11 more than Friday, and 45 were on ventilators, three more than Friday.
Two hospital readiness regions reported more than 80% of their intensive-care beds occupied: Lake Cumberland, 91%, and the easternmost region, from Lee County to Pike County, 82%.
The state's daily report is here. Gov. Andy Beshear reported on Facebook that 1,654,407 Kentuckians have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. He has said he will relax restrictions on business capacity and other preventive measures when 2.5 million are vaccinated.
