Kenton County Schools ban use of tobacco

The Kenton County Board of Education voted unanimously March 2 to approve a smoke-free policy immediately prohibiting the use of tobacco on school property, in board-owned vehicles and on school-related trips.

“We have a responsibility to model healthy behavior for students,” Supt. Terri Cox-Cruey told the Community Press and Recorder. "Jess Dykes, director of public relations and community engagement, said the request for the district to become smoke-free came from Gov. Steve Beshear," reporter Melissa Stewart writes. "The governor has requested all school districts to consider the policy change."

Dykes said Kenton County joins six other Northern Kentucky school districts with a smoking ban: Grant County, Beechwood, Dayton, Carroll County, Gallatin County and Williamstown.
