Kentucky ranks 49th again in report that measures well-being

Kentucky again ranked 49th in the 2016 Gallup-Healthways State of American Well-Being Rankings, based on polling about physical health, social connections, finances, community and sense of purpose.

"West Virginia and Kentucky have recorded the lowest well-being in the nation for the past eight years in a row," says the report.

Hawaii again, had the best score, at 65.2, compared to Kentucky's 60.5 and West Virginia's 58.9.

Kentucky's best ranking was in the category that measured community safety and pride (29) and worst for the category that measured health and energy levels (49). The state ranked 40th in the financial stress and security category; 41st in relationships and love; and 44th in motivation, goals and contentment.

The report says it is the responsibility of individuals, organizations and communities to actively create and promote opportunities for well-being.

Data for the report came from both cellphone and landline interviews with more than 177,000 U.S. adults during all of 2016.
